Nor-Cal Precision
I'Thunder and Lightning'
30" fluted K&P barrel, 6/284, Vias muzzle brake, Jewel trigger, Badger
rings and base, Nightforce 8-32 scope, McMillan A-5 stock with adjustable
cheek piece, 3-way butt plate, Freeland rail and 5 # of lead in butt of stock.
Here is my personal testimony:
I have always wanted a rifle in a long range caliber for rockchucking. I came
across a web forum where varminters exchange their ideas and opinions on almost
everything to do with this sport. One individual was really going on about
two heavy barreled 6/284 rifles he and his dad had built in California. Also
it's ability to push the SMK 107's to 3,400 fps, accurately. The gunsmith's
name was Jerry Rice. After talking with Jerry for hours about everything under
the sun, we came to an agreement on some choices of calibers, twists, stocks,
scopes, triggers, etc., etc.. Before I knew it, the rifle came in to the local
gunshop. When I opened the package, I was delighted. It was more gun than
I had imagined. The inletting, the lapping, the fluting, the finish on the
barrel, etc., could not have been upgraded at all. It was fantastic. I was
really satisfied with Jerry's work. It was a quality firearm. Everything about
it was perfect. After fireforming my 50 cases, I performed a 'ladder' test
to find that one best load with H-1000 and the SMK 107's. I settled on 54
grains, the exact recommendation Jerry had given me weeks before. Five shots
went into the .3's at 100 yards. Since then I have done the same at 200 yards,
playing with the seating depth and bullet weight uniformity. It likes .020-.030
into the lands with tight neck tension. The rifle is a true performer.

I can only say that I am very pleased that I chose Jerry for a gunsmith. His work is great. He's the friendliest guy in the state of California too. I strongly recommend Jerry to anyone looking for not only a very fine firearm, but also a smith who loves to work with his clients. He is truly a pleasure to deal with.
Thanks, Jerry, for everything!
